The proposed Huron-Superior and Northeastern Ontario Conservation Authorities are just too far flung to make sense operationally considering the vast areas they would cover. At the very least, the Lakehead CA should remain on its own as its ecosystem is totally different from those in Southern Ontario. The Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay-Mattawa CAs should remain on their own as well as they are physically isolated. The Nickel District and Mattagami CAs could be combined. Keeping these physically separate CAs on their own, besides making operational and administrative sense, would also make sense if CA areas were to ever be expanded into current non-CA areas, as these retained regions could become the core of newly expanded regional CAs.
