Municipalities should make determinations about changing motor vehicle lanes when installing, implementing or marking new bicycle lanes, not the province.
There should be no amendments creating regulation-making authorities and no support allowing the Minister to prescribe additional prohibited activities or to provide exemptions from the prohibition.
We need to encourage and protect transportation alternatives like bicycles, not attempt to restrict them on any scale. These specious efforts under the guise of building faster are not only blunting the progress already made to take climate action but further embedding the behavior that got us into trouble in the first place.
Our leaders should not be pandering to the past but lead us boldly into a cleaner future.
