The role of Conservation Authorities is linked directly to the Source Protection Program.
There are 19 Source Protection Regions in the province that are already working to together and have established individual Source Protection Plans to suit local needs.
The proposed boundary changes do not align with these regions will create significant problems in terms of the Source Protection Program.
Breaking up the CTC Source Protection Region does not make sense.
It would make far more sense the use the existing Source Protection Region boundaries to create the new regional conservation authorities.
These regions already have established agreements and working relationships.
This approach would also not create problems related to overlapping Source Protection Plans that will occur with the current Proposal.
There may be a few areas where smaller Source Protection Areas/Conservation Authorities could amalgamate if appropriate, such as Quinte and Cataraqui Conservation Authorities.
Seven regional conservation authorities for a province this big and diversion is not a good idea because smaller rural areas will lose their voice.
