The proposal to consolidate Ontario’s conservation authorities is a deeply misguided decision that threatens the province’s environmental health, public safety, and long-term resilience. Conservation authorities play a critical role in flood prevention, watershed management, and habitat protection — expertise that cannot be replicated through centralized oversight. Reducing local control undermines decades of community-based stewardship and jeopardizes the integrity of natural systems that protect lives and property from climate-related disasters. Ontarians deserve a government that strengthens, not dismantles, the institutions safeguarding their environment and future.
