Consolidating Ontarios 36 conservation authorities into 7 led by political appointees is a major step backward when it comes to protecting our water, reducing flood risks, overall environmental conservation and jobs! Ontario’s conservation authorities are the ideal examples of community based watershed management that prioritized the localities ecosystems and communities. The Walkerton crisis is a historical reminder of why we have conservation authorities and what we risk consolidating them as a political tool, drinking water protection, the health on Ontarians and our environment. For all these reasons consolidating the them will dismantle important regulations and proactive management leading to the destruction of all good things that grow in Ontarios! To add, the number of local provincial job cuts in this sector will be massive and frankly is joke when you compare the millions of dollars the conservative are set to spend on a fraudulent spa and grants to their donors and supporters with tax money. These staff have dedicated their careers to their community and have been committed to fostering a healthy environment for generations to come. As we experience more unprecedented weather, increased urban sprawl and development and, job instability, passing this bill will risk the livelihoods of Ontarians today and for the future.
