Please stop this proposal.
No one knows the Lake Simcoe region better than people from Lake Simcoe themselves. No one knows the biodiverse needs of Lake Simcoe better than people from Lake Simcoe themselves. No one knows the environmental struggles of Lake Simcoe better than people from Lake Simcoe themselves.
You cannot tell the people from the Lake Simcoe region that a corporation based in lower Ontario will know, care for, love, conserve, and advocate for their environment better than they have since 1951.
Consolidating the unique conservation authorities into seven major bodies will NOT help speed up construction. It will only slow. It. Down. What could take one week of approval in a small town conservation office could take more than two MONTHS in a conglomerate’s office.
Tell me: How is consolidating the 36 authorities going to help Premier Ford’s “mission” to “build” more resources if the consolidated bodies are terribly unfamiliar with the terrains and ecosystems they will be charged with? Who knows! Maybe these new constructions will be built with the approval of a body from the GTA who has zero familiarity with Eastern Ontario watershed, and UH-OH! There goes your 56 million-dollar “investment! Sucked into terrain too fragile to support the tonnes of weight! Too bad there wasn’t someone disgustingly educated on the ecology of the area who could have told you that that region has been at risk for sinkholes for the last 200 years! Oh well!
Tell me: How is consolidating a ran-through urban water system with a well-maintained rural system going to help “speed up” the Premier’s “plan”? Tell me, Douglas!
The only thing that all 7 proposed conservation regions will have in common is that they are being (pardon my French) consistently f****d by the Ford government.
Thank you.
