We need to protect flood planes, wetlands, rivers and conserve decades of local watershed knowledge. Just because our southern neighbour stopped caring about the environment and being a responsible global citizen, does not mean that we should too. We should NOT bulldoze legislation through that threatens different ecosystems and we should NOT bulldoze through protected lands to build housing. We have so much land in this country. We really do not need to destroy protected habitats and undermine flood protection, environmental monitoring and science based work so the government can have easier access to "prime real estate for development". You have communities around the country you can prop up with marketing and funding for development. You can even find places to build entirely new towns if you wanted, and experts across the country that can help attract industry and residents. STOP trying to destroy protected lands and conservation areas. Find somewhere else to build.
