I am strongly opposed to the province's proposal to amalgamate conservation authorities based on the following points.
The proposed authority boundaries are way too large and therefore threaten effective water-shed management. This takeover will result in lower decision-making ability at local levels and damage community relationships. It will weaken local engagement by diluting donor connections to their community.
I do not support the model of a provincially appointed board but instead call for a larger group of only elected officials.
I know from first-hand experience that Grand River Conservation Authority is doing an excellent job as is and should be supported to continue their important work.
