Conservation authorities were established to protect people and the environment, addressing local needs with local expertise. The proposed amalgamation would remove decision-making power from local experts, creating a disconnect between decision-makers and the communities they serve. These sprawling regional conservation authorities would try to apply a one-size-fits-all approach to dozens of municipalities and watersheds with local needs and unique environments. Not to mention the strain this would create on staff trying to understand and work on such vast areas
