Re: ERO #025-1257 - Proposed boundaries for the regional consolidation of Ontario’s conservation authorities
I am opposed to the scope and scale of the proposed boundary changes being proposed for Conservation Authorities across Ontario
Muskoka does not have a conservation authority. It has a long standing relationship with Muskoka Watershed Council which relies often on the expertise and guidance of various conservation authorities throughout the province
Conservation Authorities (CAs) are a valued local presence that provide key stewardship, parks, trails and educational activities, in addition to flood management and regulatory functions, so essential to keeping our area safe.
A regional CA model will diminish the CA partnerships and local presence on the ground.
As noted, Muskoka relies on resources from many CA’s across the province because of the unique challenges of each and their ability to provide expert advice as Muskoka faces diverse challenges.
This amalgamation consideration should be reviewed with broader consultation with not only the CA’s but also many other organizations that are supported by their extensive expertise
It is important that CAs
Maintain local presence
Maintain municipal appointments to the boards based on population
Maintain local naming of parks and facilities
Ensure municipal funds are allocated to their local watersheds
Receive sufficient provincial funding for the full scope of their responsibilities
Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments.
