Local communities want and need local representation in all aspects of government, and especially so with the management and protection of our valuable water resources and wetlands.

Amalgamations have been a provincial project since the days of Premier Mike Harris. All have come with more pitfalls than benefits. Municipalities, School Boards, Hospitals, Health Units; all are amalgamation failures, leading to large, ineffective bureaucracies that make them vulnerable to abuse.
In just my riding alone, there are several examples:
1. Amalgamated School Boards have shown to be dysfunctional, financial mismanagement and abuse, massive cost overruns
2. Amalgamated Municipalities result in poor representation with dysfunctional councils and the colliding of cities/town/village interests and needs
3. Hospital Amalgamations have resulted in criminal charge of massive fraud by various hospital administrators, unmanageable power structure, massive cost overruns.

If and when a broader approach is needed between the various CAs, there is already plenty of opportunity to work cooperatively with others on an issue-by-issue or project-by-project basis.

Keep CAs effective by keeping them local.
