I live in Thunder Bay. As someone who is very involved in outdoor activities, I am very familiar with the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority, the work they do, and the conservation areas that they manage. I am appalled at the proposal to amalgamate conservation areas that are so geographically distant! For the life of me I cannot imagine how it would be possible, for any organization based so far away in Southern Ontario, to effectively look after the areas that are currently so well managed by the LRCA. It’s a ludicrous idea! I would suggest that whoever thought this up, should make the long drive up to Thunder Bay on the two-lane road that passes for the Trans Canada highway in this part of the country. And after they get here they can see for themselves how well the LRCA works currently, and how unwieldy it would be to try to manage this area from down there.
