I am a resident of Thunder Bay, and am STRONGLY OPPOSED to the
Province’s proposed amalgamation of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) with six
other Southern Ontario Conservation Authorities to form the “Huron-Superior Regional Conservation
Authority”. I support LRCA’s recommendation that the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority form
a stand-alone regional conservation authority as the “Northwestern Ontario Regional Conservation
Authority”.
Based on the plans and maps posted for the new Conservation Authorities, it makes no sense that Northeastern Ontario would get their own RCA when the LRCA can't maintain their own. If any RCA should be merged together to form the Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority, it should be the ones that are closer geographically, which is Northeastern Ontario RCA and Huron.
Once again the focus is being put on Southern Ontario and allocating them a lot of resources instead of giving Northwestern Ontario its own focus and resources to be able to continue functioning how they have been.
The amalgamation with other RCA in Southern Ontario will remove funding and governance opportunities from the LRCA, and limit their abilities for their own funding and programs.
