As a concerned citizen of a city which must remain nameless as no identifying information can be included in comments, I am deeply troubled that Thunder Bay’s conservation authority will be amalgamated with several conservation authorities in Southern Ontario.
The North has unique features of size, weather, geography, flora, and fauna , and a small population, all of which make caring for this vast area particularly challenging.
Global warming creates dangerous conditions for flooding and wildfires. Luckily the Lakehead Conservation Authority has the experience and expertise to mitigate these effects provided the provincial government supports their efforts.
To ignore this reality imperils a huge swath of Northern Ontario. This at a time when developing the Ring of Fire is a priority of this government. How painfully ironic that a short-sighted decision to cancel the existence of Lakehead Conservation Authority may imperil this government’s dream of future economic prosperity.
