I truly think that this a bad idea. Conservation authorities need to stay local. One of the best traits about conservation authorities is about how connected they stay to their communities, as well as the important rural jobs they provide. Someone in Halton might not understand the Welland River like someone in Niagara might. Farmers in Niagara might not respond well to someone in Mississauga or Hamilton telling them what to do. Will rural conservation workers lose their jobs to cities? And these are just concerns for the “smallest” amalgamated authority. What will happen in Thunder Bay - Lake Huron?
