Leave the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority its own entity. We are a unique in our location and the region it serves. Quit trying to tramp on the environment. Amalgamating from our region serving 10 municipalities to 72 makes no sense. More municipalities to serve, less service and then environmental concerns slip under the radar. Amalgamating conservation authorities does nothing to help with the governments so called concern re “ being fragmented” with different authorities having various fees or policies from other authorities. Work on helping set new guidelines, how to set fees, time frames for construction approvals, farmers and landowners. Trust the government to throw everything together and then expect various regions who know nothing about each other to work together faster and more efficiently covering vast areas that they work to preserve and protect. Sounds like maybe the government is hoping that things get missed and the great developments go unchallenged with concerns to the environmental impact. Focus on helping our healthcare, housing and food prices. Quit trying to cut jobs by amalgamation and hoping that the people don’t notice when their nature is gone or the water is further polluted.
