This proposal is problematic on several counts. Consolidating these vast areas risks losing highly location-specific expertise, insights and community support. Setting up a new oversight body above seven new entities will create even more bureaucracy, removed from local context, and create conditions for politicizing the science of water management. This government’s approach to undermining the Green Belt makes this concern quite plausible.
