I have lived in Huron and Perth Counties for over 30 years. I have noted the local communities are strong and active in promoting economic and community well being for themselves and all who visit. There is a general understanding that the health of the environment (WATER , AIR and LAND) in those regions affect all living there and beyond. The watershed in any region flows into other regions so connecting everyone but folks are best able to focus on the rivers, streams and lakes in their backyard. We need localized efforts who understand the importance of conservation and care for the watershed in their particular area. Local folks can influence each other better than 'far away voices' of non residents. Keep the work of local watersheds local....connected to the bigger picture but influenced first and foremost by smaller regional protectors. We build water protectors in relationships between people who know each other not to someone never/rarely met.
Having local known staff have been very helpful and inspirational over the years. I trust these folks and bring others to events and programs that they share. I am not confident that a bigger far away office of staff would have that kind of capacity and connection. We need local expertise who understand the community.
