As a resident of Thunder Bay, I am OPPOSED to the Province’s proposed amalgamation of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) with six Southern Ontario Conservation Authorities to form a “Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority”. The LRCA is so geographically separated from the other conservation authorities and in a distinctly different significant major watershed that this particular amalgamation does not seem to make any sense. In this particular instance this is not an amalgamation of adjacent conservation authorities, the LRCA is in no way adjacent (or particularly similar) to the other conservation authorities in the proposed new grouping. I do not believe that this particular amalgamation would in any way better serve the interests of residents of Northwestern Ontario nor the conservation lands, waters and projects managed by the LRCA. I support the LRCA’s recommendation that the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority form a stand-alone regional conservation authority as the “Northwestern Ontario Regional Conservation Authority”.
