I have some concerns about the amalgamations of the Ontario Conservation Authorities. On the one hand, I believe that streamlining the pass purchases and usage would be a great benefit in terms of governmental efficiency and convenience when travelling. On the other, I believe that many of these conversation authorities rely on the communities they are in and volunteers to make them the dynamic places that locals and tourists can enjoy. I would be concerned that smaller conservation areas that are loved by locals would not receive adequate funding or the same personal touch that makes them special and engaging places. I would be concerned that usage fees would rise and that would deter locals from using the same spaces as they may not be going further afield to use other conservation authorities properties. Furthermore, I believe that each of these conservation areas have their own mission and responses to their unique environments, watersheds, community usage, and wildlife concerns, which may get muddled or take a back seat to bureaucracy concerns in an amalgamated situation. I urge you to reconsider amalgamating the conservation authorities and consider other options that would allow for financial or bureaucratic efficiency while retaining the individualism of each of the organizations.
