The consolidation of conservation authorities proposed by the current government is a bad idea. As we have seen from other bills passed by the current Conservative Party of Ontario, policies disguised to help communities are in fact designed to centralize power, have less community input and allow the Conservative Party to implement policies that are not in the public interest. Consolidation of Conservation Authorities is simply a method to further erode environmental protections and local oversight in favour of Conservative loyalist interests, typically large developers and industry. This proposal needs to be rejected.
