Once again the province is making decisons that will negatively impact rural areas within the province. Clearly the local voice will be lost; local dollars will feed a larger machine and the small rural areas will not be represented well. Tell me how properties/watercourses/wetlands within the Canadian Shield are similar to those in urban areas? For example, how does it make sense that areas such as Whitby are grouped with small rural areas in eastern Ontario - they are nothing alike. Some CA's have already amalgamated - Quinte CA was a merger of Moira River/Napanee Region/Prince Edward Region. Perhaps it makes sense to merge smaller CA's like Upper and Lower Thames with Kettle Creek & Catfish; or Halton, Credit Valley, and Hamilton; or Lower Trent with the Crowe; or Ausauble and Maitland. Rural CA's own dozens of dams and thousands of acres of green space, some of which has been donated by local residents - why should they be swallowed up by the Province? Despite the messaging, there will be job losses and we all know it. Less service, less represenation, yet costing the taxpayers more. One only needs to look at the Health Unit model to see this happening in real time. Shame on this provincial government.
