Hello there, I saw a Toronto Star article this morning which caused me great concern and reinforced my objections to the MZO Proposal(s).
1. How can the province support building skyscrapers that will create density in excess of that in Manhattan & HongKong? (FYI, it is of concern that fires recently swept through a cluster of high rises in Hong Kong killing many people)
2. The congestion at the intersections of Trafalgar, the QEW and Cornwall Road already brings traffic to a standstill for 2 to 3 hours every morning and afternoon. Can you imagine the chaos that 20 Years of construction in that area will bring to Oakville?
3 Speaking of construction, surely it has not escaped your notice that the condo market has collapsed. Who in their right mind would build in the suburbs? Who would buy out here? Will the developer, Distrikt, just sit on the land for up to20 years, waiting for the condo market to recover while they pay little taxes on this undeveloped property? Maybe we need an investigation into the practice of “land banking” and who is involved?
4. Under the proposed MZO’s, if approved, Oakville taxpayers will be responsible for paying for infrastructure development from day one. If the developer goes bankrupt in the interim, the taxpayers will be left holding the bag for the costs!
5. The article quotes Mayor Burton as not being in favour of the MZO and having an alternative reasonable plan that is already approved by the Town . Do he and the councillors who represent the views of the citizens of Oakville really have no say in how Oakville grows and builds for the future? Where is the democratic process?
My wife and I have voted Conservative for decades- maybe it’s time for a change.
A concerned taxpayer and voter.
