I agree with HCA’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community. Our conservation areas are well taken care of and with the amalgamation of areas, I believe the province would not support the HCA as needed but would always have to look out for the “greater good” which may mean that the HCA isn’t as well cared for. I think local parks and conservation areas should stay in the hands of those who are local and making decisions based on a community’s needs and not “general needs”. When the HCA waterfalls were featured in BlogTO and an influx of tourists flocked to the area, it was clear that more did not mean better. By having a greater conservation area, more people would be visiting without the infrastructure changes that are needed to support the larger number of visitors (which most delicate ecosystems in these conservation areas cannot support, even with changes.) More parking lots, does not help when more people are trampling through single track paths/hiking trails.
