I agree with the position submitted by the Hamilton Conservation Authority. The Province has not identified a clear problem that this merger would solve, and there is no evidence that local conservation authorities are failing to meet expectations—HCA already delivers efficient, reliable service.
This proposal would weaken local oversight by shifting funding and decision-making away from the communities that know these lands best. Local priorities, partnerships, and on-the-ground knowledge are essential to protecting our watershed, and a large regional agency would make it harder for local voices to be heard.
There is simply no demonstrated need to restructure the entire system. Improvements to consistency and efficiency can be made within the existing framework without the cost, disruption, and uncertainty of a merger.
I urge the Province to maintain strong local governance and focus on solutions that build on what already works.
