The proposed consolidation of regional conservation authorities in ontario is a terrible idea and needs to be canceled immediately.

It is obvious that this is nothing more than a land grab by the ford government to go after more land for development. The problem is that we need urgently to conserve these wetlands for the sake of future generations.

Wetlands are part of a fragile ecosystem and act as carbon sinks to trap co2 and prevent it from entering into the atmosphere. In this way , they act to prevent more global warming. Wetlands also act as a safety valve for floods when they absorb excess rain water and prevent flooding in municipalities. The provincial government is responsible for stewardship of this land, its not always about making a quick buck and selling properties off.

Management of wetlands should remain in the hands of the municipalities and not be centralized, only to become another cog in the inefficient steam roller machine of ford nation.
