It's not clear to me why a consolidation of conservation authorities is being proposed, and what useful goal will be achieved -- other than a centralization of control. This is inappropriate, given that the province makes only a very trivial contribution to the budget of local conservation authorities.
I have been a resident of the Hamilton area and user of Hamilton Conservation Authority lands for more than thirty years. As a professional geographer (now retired) I also take an interest in how it manages those lands. The HCA does a fine job, and I believe it is important that there be a meaningful element of local control in the running of the agency.
Why go to the trouble and expense of amalgamation? Things are working well as they are!
