Much like any efforts to consolidate local issues under regional power structures, I believe this effort will ultimately harm each authorities ability to handle small scale projects. I postulate that this signals the true purpose of this change; to weaken conservation authorities in their ability to holistically handle permit applications, whilst allowing for faster development of sensitive lands. Ontario’s system of conservation authorities is a long standing and crucial structure that protects us from toppling silent ecosystem services we rely on. Therefore, any choices that weaken it should be firmly warned against.
