I am strongly against this proposal.
For my job i have often worked with governments in other countries (including the USA). When i have been asked to explain what Conservation Authorities are and how they operate i have regularly heard in response envy of such a great mandate and organizational structure!
To have a watershed based organization whose priority is to protect against flooding and to be organized by watershed and not arbitrary municipal boundary is an exceptional model.
In a time when southern ontario faces increased risk from climate change flooding and the push to increase development everywhere without considering long term risks we can not afford to lose the current structure and focus of Conservation Authorities.
Please stop prioritizing developers pockets over the long term financial risk to Ontario residents from another Hurricane Hazel incident.
