I am deeply concerned about, and opposed to, the proposed merger of conservation authorities in Ontario. I agree with the Hamilton Conservation Authority's submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making, and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community. I do not see any benefit to the proposed merger, and believe that any concerns by the province can be met by other means without the proposed merger, such as setting consistent provincial standards across all conservation authorities, investing in shared technology, and providing stable provincial funding to strengthen core programs and modernize operations.
