I wish to express my opposition to the proposal to amalgamate Ontario's 36 conservation authorities down into 7 large, diverse regional authorities and create an additional bureaucratic level agency to provide oversight, etc.. In my view this will not provide more efficient, timely or effective service delivery at the local level. Having many municipalities (more than 60 for the proposed Huron-Superior Regional CA) trying to collectively oversee such huge geographic areas with widely different topographies, land uses, flooding and/or erosion problems, financial capabilities, etc.. will simply be worse, not better, than the CA system we have now, and will not make development easier, quicker or safer (from flooding and erosion hazards).
