As you know, the Provincial government is proposing to amalgamate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into seven regional conservation authorities with direct oversight by the minister. This action would severely undermine the local expertise conservation authorities currently provide and put all Ontarians at risk of flooding and other hazards.
Conservation Authorities ensure that we have clean water to drink, that our homes and businesses are not built on floodplains, that environmentally vulnerable waterways, wetlands, and species are protected.
Our Conservation Authorities are literal treasures, recognized repeatedly globally for their unique excellence in protecting environments and communities, that exist to ensure our safety and security. We are fast losing those institutions that have served us so well as the excellence of public healthcare, education, and our shared environments are viciously undermined at every opportunity to promote private gain at public cost - at our cost, as taxpayers, as community members, as families who wish to ensure our children are safe. I urge you to stop this amalgamation and protect what little environmental safeguards we have left.
Thank you>
