As property owners in two Ontario municipalities and both provincial and municipal voters, my wife and I are dismayed and opposed to the proposal to consolidate Ontario's conservation authorities. The plan is unworkable and will create bureaucratic monstrosities that are unable to deal effectively with the size of each authority. As rate payers and voters in two Ontario municipalities we have been confident that the two were well represented in the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority. It currently has representation from 18 cities, towns and townships which is large enough. And we have been impressed when representatives of the RVCA came to our rural property to advise on shoreline and waste water management to protect the local watershed and the ground water we rely upon. We have no confidence that a consolidated authority covering a massive area encompassing very different land forms and watersheds between the Ottawa River, St Lawrence and Lake Ontario would be able to provide adequate representation and services. We doubt we would ever see a conservation authority employee again and any services provided would be restricted to online and telephone calls.
Please reconsider this foolish policy. It will not serve the residents of Ontario well.
