The current administration’s environmental policies have raised significant concerns regarding the prioritization of private commercial interests over ecological preservation. While economic growth is a valid objective, the benefits of these initiatives appear to be concentrated among a small group of domestic and foreign stakeholders rather than the broader Ontario public.
Of particular concern is that this proposal was developed without consultation with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority or the 17 municipalities it serves. This lack of engagement appears to be part of a broader trend observed across other regions.
Furthermore, these actions follow a concerning pattern of systemic underfunding and deregulation under the mandate of "efficiency." From the management of the Greenbelt and Ontario Place to the current state of healthcare and education, there is a growing perception that vital public programs are being compromised to the detriment of everyday citizens.
I do not support this proposal. Further consulting with local conservation authorities should take place before any changes are pushed through.
