I am very much against this proposal; based on amalgamations that have occurred with other organizations (e.g. schools, communities, hospitals). I am afraid that not only will local control and insights be lost, but the administrative costs often increase overall. Less local volunteerism will often happen as well. The Hamilton Regional Conservation Authority has done an excellent job of acquiring and managing the lands around the region. The HRCA has provided excellent access for the public to enjoy and for preventing urbanization of areas of environmental significance. The local group is much more in tune than a regional body with the needs of the community and of the local watershed that must be protected for a healthy future for both people and wildlife.
