I oppose the proposal to combine the Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority into the Huron Superior Conservation Authority. The regional coverage from Eastern Lake Huron to Northwestern Ontario is too vast geographically and will negatively impact on the quality of the support provided by the proposed Conservation Authority.
I would be interested to know how many of the bureaucrats involved in the development of the current proposal have driven Highway 17 and therefore have a first-hand appreciation for the vast watershed areas which would comprise the Huron Superior Conservation Authority.
I support the recommendation from the current LRCA that the LRCA form a stand alone independent Regional Conservation Authority, as the “Northwestern Ontario Regional Conservation Authority” to ensure that the interests of Northwestern Ontario are equitably represented. Additionally, I support the request from the current LRCA Board that the Ministry engage directly with affected municipalities of the LRCA before finalizing any consolidation boundaries.
