I oppose the amalgamation of the Mattagami regional conservation area with Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and North bay. Due to the Mattagami river floods of the pass especially in the 1950’s where lives were claimed, they are essential here and understand our community and environment. They also take care a majority of the trails that are used everyday by residents. This amalgamation would see services for our area diminish. Let’s also be honest, this is for Doug Ford to have more oversight to then remove funding and cripple these organization so that his billionaire buddies can be sold land that are currently classified as flood zones so that they can be benefited from them being developed. You’ll then see flooding of houses become a more frequent occurrence and a potential of lives being loss. The only people who I would hold responsible for those events would the government which is only concerned about about corporate donors and wearily donors over the everyday Ontarian that would be affected by this decision. This amalgamation doesn’t show that this is for cost cutting reasons because there is no costs that can be cut. These conservation authorities are already operating within a minuscule budget and making it work.
