Many of us are concerned. Given the Ford government's track record on Conservation, on transparency, on respect for the environment in Ontario taxpayers we have every reason to be concerned. The larger areas remove the ability for small communities and local engagement to occur. Ecosystems are unique to their exact location and micro climates. To group them together and treat them the same or do sweeping and brushing amendments to Conservation endangered species acting so on as a step in the wrong direction. They should remain small and local so that communities that are involved and live in proximity and harmony to these naturalized areas have a say. They have a right to how taxpayer public property is treated and managed. I for one will say I have lost all trust and respect in the PC for government's ability to manage such things as endangered species act, water, rights, Ontario place. The list is long.
There are definitely more effective ways to streamline conservation authorities, making them both locally effective and economically efficient. A broad brushstroke of amalgamation is not the solution. It is my opinion, and the opinion of many others that is just another Doug Ford control grab so that developers, etc. can make decisions without consulting Ontario taxpayers.
