My concern with this proposed amalgamation of Conservation Area Authorities is that the local knowledge and concerns will be lost to people who don't live or interact within the immediate area. With the province's push to increase the population of Ontario and construct new housing developments I can see whomever is in charge of the new consolidated areas delegating these new developments to areas outside of where they live. The NIMBY factor would come in to play.
For this reason, I believe that conservation area decisions are best served locally and not regionally.
Also, after having experienced the attempted sell-off of the precious Greenbelt lands, I see this as a potential move towards converting the Conservation Area Authorities to Construction Area Authorities.
