Conservation Authorities are a valued local presence that provide stewardship, education and oversight within our communities. They use extensive local knowledge and science to guide their programs that provide benefits to all of us through protecting our waterways and lands.
These changes will have negative impacts on our communities and the environment.
I believe the province should:
Maintain local decision making boards.
Ensure municipal funds are allocated within local watersheds.
Consider the negative environmental impacts these changes will have.
Work collaboratively with CA’s to build capacity and streamline processes where it makes sense. CA’s should have a voice at the table and an opportunity to work with provincial decision makers to determine next steps.
Local Conservation Authorities provide local knowledge and oversight. The proposed changes will have negative environmental impacts while reducing efficiency efforts and will cost taxpayers more in the long term.
