This is a horrendously bad idea. Watershed management is, by definition best done on an individual watershed basis. Local watersheds need to be governed by local municipalities to address unique local conditions and communities. With the amalgamations, how will up to 78 municipalities each have representation on the board of directors?
These amalgamations will further delay permit application reviews and further delay housing and commercial developments.
The conservation authorities model has been extremely successful in reducing loss of life and property due to flooding; managing, monitoring and researching watersheds; devoping relationships with governments, residences and businesses. It is the envy of the world.
This proposal smacks of the premier’s longstanding, petty, illogical personal vendetta towards conservation authorities.
This proposal will waste money and result in delays and mismanagement.
Please cancel this proposal.
