This change to Conservation Authority boundaries is taking management of watersheds out of local municipal hands. Conservation Authorities have been managed on a watershed basis since the inception. As a previous municipal appointee to both the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority and the Niagara Peninsula CA Governance and Accountability WG, it was clear that decisions were being made by local citizens for the betterment of the local watershed. Eliminating 36 Conservation Authorities and replacing them with 7 Regional Conservation Authorities also decentralizes the local decision making process.
