Ontario's Conservation Authorities have been revered worldwide for their watershed approach to conserve and manage our natural resources, working closely with municipalities to do so. The 36 conservation authorities are not fragmented - they provide unique services and programs to the people in their respective watersheds. Amalgamating them into just 7 will fragment the system that protects the environment and wildlife in Ontario. The current Conservation Authority system fosters responsible development and prevents developments that have adverse effects on the environment and on communities. We must move forward with responsible development that promotes ecosystem services, not destructive projects that result in poor water quality, soil contamination, erosion, and other negative effects. Amalgamating the Conservation Authorities into only seven will hinder their ability to protect their watersheds from these disastrous effects. It will result in an Ontario that is unsafe and unhealthy, and this will decimate our economy. Please support our conservation authorities by keeping the boundaries as they are to allow them to continue their outstanding work!
