The proposal for consolidating Ontario's Conservation Authorities will result in an added layer of bureaucracy, not a streamlining of review processes, so often touted as a goal the the Ontario government. There seems to be an ulterior motive that needs to be addressed, that of the continued attack on the necessary autonomy of Ontario's Conservation Authorities through the further proposed changes to the Conservation Authorities Act that may be introduced at a later date. The intent seems to be an 'end run' strategy to better align the work of CAs with provincial political priorities rather than the pursuit of safety on a watershed basis.
