Amalgamating the conservation authorities is a terrible idea. They are so important and operate from a bioregional/watershed perspective. Having local authority over these conservation authorities is key to ensuring they can protect the environment and prevent flooding in municipalities. This merger does not seem to be happening with any evidence based analysis. This government does not care about conservation and just wants to limit the ability to protect the environment so that developers can make more money paving our floodplains, forests and green space. This short sighted decision will negative impact local environments for decades to come. We need MORE conservation and environmental legislation not less.
It’s truly despicable what this government has done to conservation and the environment in so few years. Everyone in power who supports this move should be ashamed of themselves.
