I believe that conservation areas have specialized and localized knowledge about their environment. The current divisions such as the Grand River Conservation Authority allows people to view and make decisions about the ecosystem considering the watershed of the Grand River in its entirety, making decisions that are best for that particular ecosystem. I worry that merging many authorities together will lead to a loss of jobs, loss of specialized and localized knowledge, and a higher focus on the regions with more population. I do not think these conservation authorities should be merged in the name of quicker development.
