I oppose this bill. Please take note of my objection. As a property owner on a lake my concern is the quality of our water and the current Conservation Authority approach is working for property owners.
It seems that the government’s bill is more concerned with improving turn around times for developers and not on maintaining the quality of water and I find this unacceptable.
The point that is missed is that the Conservation Authorities play a key role in monitoring a vital resource: water. We all need to have reliable and safe supplies. The Walkerton Tragedy underlined what can happen when standards are relaxed, inspections are infrequent, staff are stretched. To undermine what we have achieved in the past 25 years is a travesty, a disservice to all who currently live in Ontario, and all future generations. Entirely because of "uncertainty and delays for builders seeking permits". This is an egregious attack on a fundamental human right - to be assured of clean water. This proposal does nothing to ensure that we never suffer another Walkerton Tragedy.
