The benefits of consolidation do not appear to outweigh the benefits of local authorities and risk substantial loss in local engagement. Volunteers and support in kind is immensely valuable and has broad benefits for conservation and education, as well as community health, physical and mental and simply a sense of community. Many of the challenges associated with fragmentation of CA can be resolved without consolidation. Any cost savings risk being diminished by weakened local partnerships. SSM is really proud of its trail systems and the SSMRCA. The SSMRCA is a strength and this would be a poor time to take this away through amalgamation.
