I am concerned about the Province’s proposal to consolidate Conservation Authorities. Local Conservation Authorities are uniquely equipped with watershed-specific knowledge that cannot be effectively replaced by larger, regional bodies. Consolidation risks weakening environmental protection, increasing response times to flooding and erosion, and reducing meaningful local and rural representation in decision-making.
Conservation Authorities exist to protect natural resources and public safety based on local conditions. Removing that local governance threatens long-term watershed health, agricultural lands, and community resilience. I urge the Province to reconsider this proposal and maintain strong, locally governed Conservation Authorities.
