Conservation Authorities have protected Ontarian's for the last 80 years. Over those 80 years, local residents have come to rely on the expertise of their local Conservation Authorities to mitigate flood risk and to promote healthy local watersheds.
That being said, when the minister announced there was to be a consolidation of CAs from 36 to 7 to help streamline permitting and have all CAs enforce the same rules, this made me wonder why? Could the provincial government not just increase funding to hire more planners, purchase and implement the same software for all CAs and create regulations each CA must follow.
The provincial government should be doing a feasibility study before any changes are made. Consolidating does not mean better and it does have a chance to create environmental and economic issues for all the people in Ontario.
